Expansion of the PolyTech range

17-07-2024

With a few new Kroon-Oil PolyTech motor oils, the PolyTech range now enhances 4 High-Tech 100% synthetic (PAO) motor oils in different viscosities, covering a wide range of OEM specifications.

A summary of the four products:

  • PolyTech 5W-40
ACEA A3/B4 quality, full PAO/OSP variant of Emperol 5W-40
  • PolyTech MSP 5W-40 (NEW)
ACEA C3 quality full PAO/OSP variant of Specialsynth MSP 5W-40
  • PolyTech MSP 5W-30 (IMPROVED)
ACEA C2/C3 quality full PAO/OSP variant of Presteza MSP 5W-30
  • PolyTech FE 0W-20 (NEW)
ACEA C5, C6 quality full PAO/OSP variant of Presteza MSP 0W-20

*The previous PolyTech 5W-30 has been substituted by the new and improved PolyTech MSP 5W-30 while maintaining the same specifications. Next to a name change, the product also received a quality upgrade. With this upgrade, all Kroon-Oil PolyTech products are based entirely on group IV PAO base oils, meaning they are 100% fully synthetic.

State-of-the-art

PolyTech is undisputedly the best lubricant on the market. It exceeds the prescribed OE quality standards. For tuned engines and engines operating in harsh conditions such as frequent stop-and-go driving, extreme heat, and heavy loads, PolyTech is exceptionally suitable. Always check if the OE specifications on the can match those mentioned in the car manual.

OSP Additive technology

Since their commercialisation over 50 years ago, polyalkylene glycol (PAG) lubricants have continued to solve problems that mineral oils cannot. Conventional polyalkylene glycols, derived from the polymerisation of ethylene oxide and/ or propylene oxide, provide many performance benefits. These include excellent friction control, good low-temperature properties, high viscosity indices and excellent deposit control. However, one limitation is their poor miscibility in hydrocarbon oils.

A new range of oil-soluble PAGs (OSP) has recently been developed, derived from downstream derivatives of butylene oxide. These new API Group V base oils offer many of the traditional advantages of PAGs. Moreover, they offer formulators an additional tool for upgrading hydrocarbon oils by using them as a co-base oil or performance-enhancing additive to improve deposit- and friction control and extend fluid life.

Kroon-Oil PolyTech products are based on this latest revolutionary OSP additive technology, which includes a new API Group V fully synthetic base oil. This superior quality base oil has recently been made suitable as an automotive motor oil with properties never seen before, providing many advantages.

Deposits

Due to high thermal loads, hydrocarbon oxidation residues, called deposits, may occur. Deposits result from burnt petrol and motor oil, and this residue accumulation causes internal engine fouling. Piston rings will then tend to stick. This unwanted effect causes oil consumption, loss of compression and thus, loss of power in the long run. Deposits also may cause uncontrolled combustion, such as detonation, resulting in (catastrophic) engine damage. The unique OSP additive technology prevents this from happening to a significant extent. The entire engine remains internally clean, ensuring added long-term high-performance level and low oil consumption. Pistons and piston rings remain clean for longer, even during extended oil change intervals, with all the benefits that go with it. The cleaning properties of OSP are truly unsurpassed. Intensive engine testing demonstrates that sludge is effectively prevented. Blowby gasses are kept to a minimum so that the engine oil quality remains high throughout its service life. The additive package can continue to work for longer.

In addition, the OSP additive technology and the API group V Ester base oil are highly polar. That means the motor oil has high adhesive power. This adhesion makes for a robust and stable lubricating film. The result of all these aspects combined is extremely low starting wear.

Mechanical reliability is improved by purposely choosing the full PAO base oil composition. Also, due to the 100% PAO base oil composition used, lower NOACK* values are reached compared to traditional motor oils and additive technology, which results in previously unseen low oil consumption.

*NOACK: engine oil consumption simulation test. The NOACK value of a lubricant measures its volatility, with a lower value indicating better high-temperature stability and reduced oil consumption.

Stable viscosity

A powerful lubricating oil film and stable viscosity spread over a wide (high) temperature range are paramount, especially in cars driven in challenging conditions.

Conclusion

PolyTech offers:

  1. Unsurpassed cleaning properties and keeps the internal engine immaculate.
  2. Outstanding 'Shear Stability' due to the high viscosity index of the base oils used, which safeguards an ironclad lubricating film over an extensive temperature range.
  3. Smooth cold start even at very low temperatures. This results in greatly reduced wear when starting the engine.
  4. Slows the engine wear/ageing process.
  5. Excelling protection against wear and internal corrosion.
  6. Improved oxidation stability makes motor oil less prone to ageing and thickening.
  7. Reduced friction of moving engine parts results in lower oil and fuel consumption compared to conventional motor oils.
